{"id":3329,"date":"2011-12-22T21:14:38","date_gmt":"2011-12-23T03:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.delirium.org\/?p=3329"},"modified":"2011-12-22T21:14:38","modified_gmt":"2011-12-23T03:14:38","slug":"the-walking-dead-we-find-ourselves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delirium.org\/?p=3329","title":{"rendered":"The Walking Dead: We Find Ourselves"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I saw the cover to <a title=\"The Walking Dead Volume 15: We Find Ourselves by Robert Kirkman, at Amazon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Walking-Dead-15-TP\/dp\/1607064405\/\" target=\"_blank\">the most recent Walking Dead collection<\/a>, I came to what is perhaps an ironic realization.[1] I think that maybe the title of the series does not actually refer to zombies! (Not that there was any particular thing on the cover, especially a particular thing about the story in question; it just happened.) I really have nowhere else to go with this point, it just struck me and seemed relevant to share.<\/p>\n<p>As for the irony, though: this is the book in which real steps are taken toward moving from survival toward a higher step on Maslow&#8217;s ladder[2]. On the one hand, I am excited to see the few\u00a0surviving\u00a0characters I still\u00a0care\u00a0about finally seeming on the verge of a happy ending. But on the other hand, it really does feel like things are edging toward an ending, and\u00a0speaking\u00a0of ironies, now that it&#8217;s upon me, I&#8217;m not so sure I wanted it after all.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I&#8217;m objectively wrong, and all stories should end while they&#8217;re still at least somewhat good. <em>That<\/em> said, this is obviously not the last volume and there are still stories left to resolve. But it really does feel like the home stretch, and as much as I don&#8217;t want to give my characters up, I also don&#8217;t really want to see them forced into an implausible new flight from an implausible new\u00a0disaster. I&#8217;m pretty sure I want that one more, and I know for a fact that I <em>should<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>[1] Also, as with all literary analysis, I may be full of crap.<br \/>\n[2] Yes. I know.
